How do I ask Trew questions in Slack?

Add Trew to your Slack workspace and link a channel to your store, so anyone in that channel can ask Trew about sales and ads.

Add Trew to Slack

  1. In TrueROAS, go to the Integrations page and find the Slack card under Tools & add-ons.
  2. Click Connect on the card. The window Add Trew to Slack opens.
  3. Click Add to Slack. Slack opens in the same tab.
  4. Pick your Slack workspace and click Allow.
  5. Back in TrueROAS, the Slack window opens. Pick a channel under Slack channel and click Link channel.
  6. Trew posts a short hello in that channel, so everyone there knows it can answer for your store.

If some people in the channel are from another company, for example a shared channel with your agency, you see People outside your company are in #channel. Everyone in it will be able to ask Trew about your store's sales and ads. before you link it.

A private channel only shows up after you invite Trew. Type /invite @Trew in the channel, then click Refresh in the window.

If something goes wrong:

  • Slack didn't give access. Try again and click Allow. You closed the Slack window or clicked Cancel.
  • That channel already answers for another store. Unlink it there first. Each channel answers for one store.
  • Only people who manage integrations can change this. Ask the store owner or an admin to add Trew.
  1. Add Trew to Slack for your store first, as described above.
  2. In the Slack channel you want to use, type /trew link.
  3. Trew replies with a button Link this channel in TrueROAS. Only you see it.
  4. Click the button, log in to TrueROAS if asked, and click Link channel.

The button works for 10 minutes. After that, type /trew link again.

Ask Trew

  • Mention Trew with a question, for example @Trew how did Meta do yesterday?. Trew answers in a thread and shows what it is checking while it works.
  • Anyone in the channel can follow up in the same thread, for example @Trew and Google?. Trew remembers what was said earlier in that thread.
  • If your team already discussed something in a thread, write @Trew can you check this? in that thread. Trew reads the thread first.
  • Type /trew and a question to start a new thread in the channel.
  • Type /trew help to see what Trew can do and which store the channel answers for.
  • Ask for a report, for example @Trew give me this week's report. Trew posts the key numbers and a link to the full report. Anyone who has the link can open the report without logging in.
  • Tell Trew something that stays true, for example @Trew we run a sale next week. Trew saves it for your store and says so in the thread. Trew uses it in Slack and inside TrueROAS from then on.

Change or remove the channel

Open the Slack card on the Integrations page.

  • Click Change to pick another channel. The window shows This replaces #channel. so you know which channel stops answering.
  • Click Unlink to stop Trew answering in the channel.

Good to know

  • The connection is for the whole store. Only the store owner and people who can change integrations can add Trew or link channels.
  • Everyone in a linked channel can ask Trew and teach it facts, including people without a TrueROAS login and people from other companies in shared channels. Pick the channel with that in mind.
  • One channel answers for one store. To use Trew for several stores, link one channel per store.
  • Trew uses the store owner's settings in TrueROAS. A teammate with different personal settings can see other numbers when they open TrueROAS.
  • Trew in Slack can't change ads, budgets or settings. Do that in TrueROAS.
  • Trew doesn't answer direct messages yet. Ask in a linked channel.
  • Questions asked in Slack count toward the store's Trew usage. The usage view in Trew shows how much of it came from Slack.
