How do I add ad spend from a platform TrueROAS can't connect to?

Record spend for channels like Taboola in Cost Manager, day by day or as a monthly total, and see it next to the sales it drove on the Dashboard.

Add a spend source

Some places you advertise, such as Taboola, other native ad networks or influencer campaigns, cannot be connected to TrueROAS. You can still type in what you spend there, so the Dashboard shows that spend next to the sales it brings.

  1. Open Cost Manager under Setup in the left menu.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, to Ad Spend Without an Integration, and click Add Spend Source.
  3. The Add Spend Source window asks Which channel are you spending on? Type the Source name.
  4. Click Add.

A message confirms the source was added, and the window for entering spend opens straight away.

Which name to use

Type the source name that visitors from that platform arrive with, for example taboola. TrueROAS uses this name to match your spend to the sales the platform brings.

  • Capital letters do not matter for the match. The Dashboard shows the name the way you typed it.
  • The sales of every source whose name is your name, or contains it, are added together. Pick a name that only this platform's visitors arrive with.
  • Each name can be added once. Adding it again shows That source is already added.

Enter your spend

  1. Click Enter Spend next to the source. A window named after the source opens on the current month, for example Taboola Spend.
  2. To fill in another month, use the arrows next to the month name.
  3. Pick how you want to enter the spend with the switch:
    • Daily amounts: type what you spent next to each day. Today is highlighted, and the days after it are dimmed.
    • One monthly total: type the month's spend in the field Total spend for followed by the month and year. TrueROAS spreads it evenly over the days of that month.
  4. Click Done.

Each amount saves as soon as you leave its field, and a green check mark shows it was saved. Month total at the top of the window adds up the month. In Cost Manager, each source shows This month: with what you entered for the current month.

Type amounts in your store currency. See Which currency and time zone do my numbers use?. A negative amount shows Spend must be a positive number and is not saved.

A daily amount always wins over the monthly total for its day. The line under the monthly field says Any daily amounts you enter replace that day's share.

  • To remove one day's amount, empty its field.
  • Switching back to Daily amounts keeps the monthly total. To remove it, switch to One monthly total and empty the field.

Where the spend shows

On the Dashboard:

Each day's amount, or its share of a monthly total, counts on that day, so the spend follows your date range like the spend of a connected ad platform.

Remove a source

  1. Click the bin icon next to the source. Its tooltip reads Remove this source and all its recorded spend.
  2. Click Really remove? within 4 seconds.

The source and its spend for every month are deleted and leave the Dashboard. This cannot be undone.

Good to know

  • Hand-entered spend is saved for the whole store, so everyone on the store sees the same numbers. Anyone who can open Cost Manager can add, change or remove it. See What can team members see and change on the Dashboard and Ads Manager?.
  • Reports and the Ads Manager leave hand-entered spend out. In the Ads Manager, the sales of these sources stay under Organic & Unassigned, without spend. See What is Organic & Unassigned and what do its rows mean?.
  • If the row in the channel table keeps showing your spend without any sales, the name may not match the source name your visitors arrive with. A source cannot be renamed, so remove it, add it again with the right name and enter the spend again.
  • You cannot import spend from a file, split it by campaign, or have TrueROAS fetch it from the platform for you.
