How do I connect, re-link or unlink Google Ads on the Integrations page?

Link your Google login on the Google Ads card, pick the right account behind a manager account, and re-link or unlink it when it needs a reset.

What the Google Ads connection does

TrueROAS uses your Google login to read your Google Ads accounts, campaigns and spend for the Dashboard and the Ads Manager. The Google Ads card asks Google for access to your Google Ads data only. The same Google login is used when your store sends its sales to Google Ads with the Enhanced Conversions card at the top of the page. That card's switch stays greyed out until Google Ads is connected and a Google Ads account is picked for the store. See How do I send my sales to Google Ads with Enhanced Conversions?.

Sign in with a Google login that has access to your Google Ads account, either directly or through a manager account.

Connect Google Ads

  1. Open Setup in the left menu and click Integrations, or open the Ad Platforms tab of General Settings. Click Connect on the Google Ads card.
  2. The window Connect Google Ads Account shows You don't have an active Google integration. Click Link Google Account.
  3. Your browser tab moves to Google. This is not a pop-up. Choose your Google login and allow access.
  4. Google sends you back to the TrueROAS Dashboard, which saves the connection to your login. No message confirms it.
  5. Pick the Google Ads account for this store with Select Google Ad Account, on the Google dashboard or in the panel that opens from your profile picture, the one with the small gear badge in the top right corner. Until you pick an account, the card's window says Make sure you pick a Google Ad Account (see Settings in the top right corner).

If Google cannot be opened, you see Error linking google account. Please contact support.

Each time you connect or re-link here, TrueROAS clears the Google Ads account picked for the store you have open, so pick it again afterwards.

Once Google Ads is connected, the card's window also shows a Google Tracking Template with a Copy to clipboard button, which you add to Google Ads as described in How do I add TrueROAS tracking to my Google Ads campaigns?.

Pick the right account behind a manager account

If your Google login reaches your Google Ads account through a manager account, the list shows each of its client accounts as the manager account's name, a slash and the client account's name, for example Agency / Client store. The manager account itself is in the list as well. An account without a name is listed as no name.

Pick the client account that runs the ads for this store. A manager account does not run ads of its own.

  1. Click Connected on the Google Ads card.
  2. Click Google Account Already Linked (Press to re-link).
  3. Sign in to Google the same way as when you connected, and allow access.
  4. Pick the Google Ads account for this store again.

Your old connection keeps working until you finish signing in. Once you are back, stores that send their sales to Google Ads through your Google login switch to the new connection by themselves.

The card has no disconnect button. Under the re-link button it says Go to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions to unlink.

  1. Open your Google account permissions and sign in with the Google login you connected.
  2. Find TrueROAS in the list of apps with access and remove its access.

This stops the connection for every store that uses it, including sending sales to Google Ads. What happens to those sales is explained in Why did I get an email asking me to reconnect Google Ads?. To disconnect inside TrueROAS instead, use Disconnect in the Select Google Ad Account list, and read the warning about it in How do I connect or change the ad account behind the Meta, Google and Tiktok tabs? first.

If the window shows You are previously connected and need to reset your connection. in red, TrueROAS has an old connection for your login that it cannot keep using. Remove TrueROAS on the Google permissions page, then click Link Google Account in the window again.

When the connection is someone else's

  • A line that starts with Using and a name and ends with Only they can re-link or disconnect it. You use the store owner's Google Ads connection, or the store's own connection that an Admin added, and the name is theirs. The window has no button.
  • As the store owner, you can see a line that starts with Connected by, with a team member's name and a date, and ends with Re-link to use your own account instead. A team member's Google login is in use for the whole store. Click Google Account Already Linked (Press to re-link) and sign in with your own Google login.
