How do I add, move, resize and remove cards on a dashboard?

Click Edit Dashboard to add cards from Available Metrics, drag them between rows, change their size or remove them, and every change saves as you go.

Open the editor

  1. Open the dashboard tab you want to change.
  2. Click Edit Dashboard in the row of controls.
  3. A bar pins to the top with Editing and the dashboard name, a New Dashboard button, a Reset button and a blue Exit Editor button. Above the dashboard, a Create with AI or Edit with AI box lets you describe changes instead of making them by hand. See How do I build or change a dashboard with AI?.

Every change is saved the moment you make it. Click Exit Editor to go back to the normal view.

The dashboard tabs, the date range, the other controls and the AI Summary stay on the page while you edit. Click another tab to edit that dashboard instead.

Sections and rows

A dashboard is a list of sections, and each section is a list of rows. A row is 12 units wide and holds cards until it is full.

  • Each section starts with a name field, Name of Section, with the hint Add a name to organize your section. The name shows as a label above the cards.
  • Click Add row at the bottom of a section for a new empty row, or hover between two rows and click Insert row.
  • Click Add section under the last section for a new section with one empty row.
  • To delete an empty row, click the small x in its top right corner, then Delete in the Delete Row window: Are you sure you want to delete this row? This action cannot be undone. The x only shows on a row without cards, and the only row of a section cannot be deleted.
  • The delete icon next to a section name only appears when the section is empty. It opens Delete Section: Are you sure you want to delete this section and all its contents? This action cannot be undone. If you delete the only section, a new empty one takes its place.
  • When you add, move or remove a card, the editor makes sure the section starts and ends with an empty row. If you delete one of those rows, a new empty row takes its place.

Add a card

  1. In an empty row, click Add New Metric Here (Click to browse available metrics). In a row with space left, click the Add Metric Here tile at its end.
  2. The Available Metrics window opens. Pick a tab such as All, Meta, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Bing, Blended, Ads or Other, each with the number of cards, or type in the search box, which shows the total number of cards, for example Search 95 metrics. Suggestions appear as you type.
  3. Every card is shown with a small preview. The window has no description of the cards. For most cards, hover over the title inside the preview to read what the card shows. Cards already on the dashboard carry an Added badge, but you can still add them a second time.
  4. Click the + on a card to add it to the row you started from, or drag the card onto any row. A message confirms that it was added to the row. After a click, the + turns into a green check and the window closes.

If nothing matches, you see No metrics match with your search and Try a shorter search, or switch back to All. The window lists many cards under a different name than the title on the card. How the search finds them is explained in What is each card called in Available Metrics?.

New cards start small. Wide cards start at half a row, except the channel table and Top Creatives, which take the full row. A card that does not fit goes into a new row directly under the row you picked, and a row with a full-width card takes no other cards. If you dragged the card, you also see This row is full. Drop on an empty row or the item will be added to a new row.

Move, resize and remove

Each card in the editor has a strip at its top:

  • Drag the strip to move the card to another place or another row. While you drag, rows with room for the card get a green outline and rows without room a red one. Rows that already hold cards also show how much room is left, for example 67% free, or Full in red. If you drop the card on a row without room, it goes back to where it was and you see Row is full - Remove something or change size.
  • The size icons in the middle set the width. Normal cards have three sizes: small, medium and large, taking 2, 3 or 4 of the 12 units, so a row fits six small, four medium or three large cards. Wide cards, such as the channel table, the Channels chart, Sales Trend, Cost Breakdown, Recent Orders, Top Creatives and the two Google Analytics cards, have two sizes: half a row or the full row.
  • The red minus on the right removes the card from the dashboard. You can add it again from Available Metrics at any time.

The size icons have no labels. Each icon is a little bigger than the one before it, and the current size is blue. Wide cards show five icons with the first three greyed out: the fourth sets half a row and the fifth the full row.

A size that does not fit in the row is ignored, and the card keeps its old size. In a row with a wide card the sizes are not checked, so cards that no longer fit move to a second line.

How sizes look on the dashboard

On screens 900 px wide or wider, the editor shows every card at the size you set. On the dashboard itself, the cards on each line stretch to fill the row, so two small cards side by side each take half of it.

  • On screens 1200 px wide or wider, small, medium and large cards take 2, 3 and 4 units before they stretch.
  • On screens from 900 to 1199 px wide, a small card takes 4 units, so it is wider than a medium card, which takes 3.
  • When the cards in a row add up to more than 12 units, the rest move to a new line, which stretches the same way.

Below 900 px, the Dashboard and the editor use other sizes. See How do I use the Dashboard on my phone?.

Good to know

  • The dashboards are shared by the whole store. A card you add, move or remove changes what every team member sees, unless the dashboard is private. See How do I create, rename, make private or delete a dashboard?.
  • Anyone on the store who has the Dashboard open sees your changes without reloading the page.
  • There is no undo and no cancel. To go back to the standard dashboards, use Reset in the top bar. What it removes is explained in How do I create, rename, make private or delete a dashboard?.
  • If a change cannot be saved, the editor shows no error. When a change is missing after you reload the page, it was not saved, so make it again.
  • In the editor and in Available Metrics, most cards show example numbers that are the same for every store, for example Total Orders shows 139. Recent Orders shows your own orders, Cost Breakdown mixes your own costs with example numbers, and Top Creatives shows none of your ads. Click Exit Editor to see your own numbers.
  • Sections and rows cannot be dragged, and a card cannot be moved to another dashboard.
  • You cannot rename a card, change how it is calculated, or create a card of your own. Every card comes from the list in Available Metrics. See What do the cards on the Summary dashboard mean? and What do the Meta, Google and TikTok cards mean?.
