How do I see which ads are behind a source on Customer Journeys?

Click a source in the click cards or a Google, Meta or TikTok step to list the ads behind those orders, for date ranges of up to 32 days.

Open the ads behind a source

You can open a list of ads from two places on the Customer Journeys page.

From the first and last click cards:

  1. Click a source row in First click that started the journey or Last click before buying.
  2. A window opens. Its title is First Touch or Last Touch followed by the source, for example First Touch - Meta Ad.

From a step in a path:

  1. Click a Google Ad, Meta Ad or Tik Tok Ad step in How your channels work together, or under Most common paths in Journeys that include Google Ads or Journeys that include Meta Ads.
  2. A window opens, titled Google Ads in these journeys, Meta Ads in these journeys or TikTok Ads in these journeys.

While the ads load, a bar moves across the window and the line under it changes every 2 seconds, with messages such as Fetching ad names... and Connecting to ad platforms...

What the cards themselves show is explained in Which sources start my customers' journeys and which close the sale? and How do my channels work together before a customer buys?.

Read the list of ads

  • The first line counts the ads and the orders, for example Showing 4 ads that drove 37 orders. The order count is every order behind the row or step you clicked, so it does not have to match the orders under the ads added up.
  • Each ad shows its ad name, or its campaign name when the ad platform gives no ad name. Campaign: and Adset: under the name show where the ad sits, when the ad platform provides them.
  • When the ad platform has no name at all, the entry shows the name of the ad platform or source instead, or Unknown Source, with Note: Ad name not available from platform under it.
  • The ads with the most orders come first.
  • From a step, only ads of that ad platform are listed. For example, Meta Ads in these journeys lists only Meta ads.

Orders under each ad counts the orders behind your click that had this ad:

When no ads are found

The window reads No ad details found for these orders, then This may be because: and four reasons:

  • The orders came from organic or direct traffic
  • Ad platform data is not available for this time period
  • The ads may have been deleted from the platform
  • UTM tracking parameters were not added to the ads

The ads can only be looked up for a date range of up to 32 days, counting the first and the last day. With a longer range, such as Last 60 Days or Last 90 Days, this window always reads No ad details found for these orders, even when ads brought in the orders. Pick a shorter range to see the ads. See How do I change the date range?.

You see the same message when the ads could not be loaded. Close the window and click the row or step again to try once more.

A source that is not an ad, such as an email or a visit from a search engine, has no ad name to show. Its window reads No ad details found for these orders, or shows an entry with Note: Ad name not available from platform.

Good to know

  • The window uses the date range of your login, so other people on the store can see other ads if they picked other dates.
  • The ad names come from the Meta, Google Ads and TikTok accounts the store owner connected. Ads from other ad platforms are not named here.
  • The window shows how many orders each ad had, not its revenue or spend.
  • It does not list the orders themselves and has no link to the ad in the ad platform. To see the orders of a journey, use the list described in How do I read the All customer journeys list?.
  • Only Google Ad, Meta Ad and Tik Tok Ad steps can be clicked. Other steps, such as Pinterest Ad, Snapchat Ad or Email, cannot, and neither can the steps in All customer journeys.
  • On a phone the window fills the screen.
