How do I connect Pinterest Ads?
Sign in to Pinterest from the Pinterest Ads card, pick the ad account for your store, and sign in again when the access expires.
What the Pinterest connection does
TrueROAS reads your Pinterest campaigns with their spend, clicks and impressions. It only asks Pinterest for permission to read your ads and your account details, so it cannot change anything in Pinterest.
Once Pinterest is connected and an ad account is picked, your campaigns show behind the Pinterest Ads button in the Ads Manager, and your spend shows in the Pinterest Ad Spend card on the Dashboard.
- How Pinterest rows look, how many campaigns and how many days TrueROAS can load, and which currency they use is explained in How do Google, TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat campaigns differ in the Ads Manager?.
- The Pinterest Ad Spend card is explained in What do the Meta, Google and TikTok cards mean?.
- Which Dashboard totals include Pinterest spend is explained in Which ad spend and costs does each Dashboard card add up?.
Before you start, make sure you can log in to Pinterest with a login that has access to your Pinterest ad account.
Connect Pinterest
- Open Setup in the left menu and click Integrations. Under Advertising Platforms, find the Pinterest Ads card and click Connect. The window Connect Pinterest Ads Account opens. The same card is on the Ad Platforms tab of General Settings.
- Click Connect Pinterest Ads. A small Pinterest window opens. If your browser blocks it, you see Please allow popups for this site to connect with Pinterest. Allow pop-ups for TrueROAS and click the button again.
- Log in to Pinterest and allow the access TrueROAS asks for. Finish this within 5 minutes of clicking the button.
- The Pinterest window closes, you see Successfully connected to Pinterest! and the page reloads. The card now reads Connected.
If you see Pinterest connection failed: Authentication failed, the sign-in did not go through, for example because it took longer than 5 minutes. Click Connect Pinterest Ads and sign in again.
Pick the ad account
- Click Connected on the Pinterest Ads card. TrueROAS loads your Pinterest ad accounts. If your Pinterest login has exactly one ad account, it is picked for you.
- Otherwise, click Choose ad account here.
- The Select Pinterest Account list opens. It shows Loading Pinterest accounts... while it loads. Each account shows its name with its ID in brackets. An account without a name is listed as Ad Account followed by its ID.
- Pick the account. You see Pinterest ad account connected successfully.
The next time you open the window, the button shows the name of the account you picked. Hover over it to read a long name in full, and click it to pick another account.
Other messages you can see:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| No Pinterest ad accounts found | Your Pinterest login has no ad account. Sign in with a login that has access to one. |
| Failed to fetch Pinterest ad accounts | TrueROAS could not load your accounts from Pinterest. Try again. |
| Failed to connect Pinterest ad account | The account you picked was not saved. Pick it again. |
You can also pick the account in the panel that opens from your profile picture in the top right corner, under Your ad accounts. Before you connect, Pinterest shows there as a Pinterest tile under Add more. Clicking the tile starts the same sign-in.
Sign in again when the access expires
The access Pinterest gives TrueROAS runs out after a while. When it has run out, the button in the card's window reads Your access to Pinterest has expired. Please reconnect in red.
- Click Connected on the Pinterest Ads card.
- Click Your access to Pinterest has expired. Please reconnect. The Pinterest window opens.
- Log in to Pinterest and allow access, as in steps 3 and 4 of Connect Pinterest above.
The ad account you picked stays picked. TrueROAS already treats the access as expired from one hour before the end time Pinterest gave it. Until you sign in again, Pinterest numbers do not load, even though the card still reads Connected.
Disconnect Pinterest
- Open the Select Pinterest Account list, in the card's window or in the panel under your profile picture.
- Click Disconnect at the bottom of the list.
While your Pinterest access has expired, the button opens the Pinterest sign-in instead of the list, so sign in again first.
There is no confirmation. You see Successfully disconnected from Pinterest, or Failed to disconnect from Pinterest if it did not work. Disconnecting removes the Pinterest connection from your login and clears the Pinterest ad account picked for the store you have open.
Good to know
- The Pinterest connection is saved to your login and works for all your stores. The ad account is saved to your login for each store, so pick one for every store that runs Pinterest ads.
- You can pick one Pinterest ad account per store. The list has no No ad account chosen choice. To stop loading Pinterest numbers, use Disconnect, which removes the connection for all your stores.
- TrueROAS cannot pause Pinterest ads or change their budgets.
- A picked Pinterest ad account counts for the Connect ad accounts step of the setup card. See What does the setup card at the top of the Dashboard mean?.
- If you are a Team Member or Store Access user, you use the store owner's Pinterest connection when the store owner has one, and Pinterest is read-only in the panel under your profile picture. An ad account you pick on the Pinterest Ads card is saved for your login only, and only the store owner can disconnect the store owner's connection. To use your own logins instead, switch to Mine in that panel.
- If the card reads Connected but no Pinterest numbers show, see Why does an ad platform show Connected but no spend or campaigns?.
