How do I add tracking to my Snapchat and Pinterest ads?
Copy the code from the Snapchat or Pinterest tab and add it to your ad links yourself, because TrueROAS does not check these ads for you.
Snapchat
Open Setup in the left menu, click UTM Manager and pick the Snapchat tab.
At the top of the tab you connect Snapchat with Connect Snapchat Ads. After that, a button there shows your ad account, or Choose ad account here until you pick one. Click it to pick the ad account. Once an ad account is picked, a line under it names the ad account and ends in is your active ad account. Connecting is explained in How do I connect Snapchat Ads?.
The box under it says Snapchat Ads. Copy our code and add it to your URL parameters in Snapchat Ads Manager. The code is:
utm_source=snapchat&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_content={{adSet.name}}&trueroas={{creative.name}}
When someone clicks your ad, Snapchat fills in the campaign name, the ad squad name and the creative name.
- Click the code or the copy icon next to it. The code is too long to read in full in the box, so always copy it this way rather than from the grey example line under it.
- In Snapchat Ads Manager, create or edit your campaign.
- In the ad's website URL field, add the code to the end of your URL. Put it after a ? when the URL has no ? yet, and after & when it already has one.
- Save the ad in Snapchat.
Open the Pinterest tab. At the top you connect Pinterest with Connect Pinterest Ads. After that, a button there shows your ad account, or Choose ad account here until you pick one. Click it to pick the ad account. Connecting is explained in How do I connect Pinterest Ads?.
The box under it says Pinterest Ads. Copy our code and add it to your URL parameters in Pinterest. The code is:
trueroas=pin_{campaignname}_{adgroupname}_{creativeid}
When someone clicks your ad, Pinterest fills in the campaign name, the ad group name and the creative ID. When Pinterest is connected, TrueROAS uses the campaign name in it to put the sale on the matching Pinterest campaign in the Ads Manager.
- Click the code or the copy icon next to it.
- In Pinterest Ads Manager, open the ad and add the code to its URL parameters.
- Save the ad in Pinterest.
The finished link should look like the example on the tab, www.mywebsite.com/product?utm_campaign=123&trueroas=pin_{campaignname}_{adgroupname}_{creativeid}, with the code after & when the link already has parameters. View instructional video under the box shows a short video on the page.
Where the sales show
How Snapchat and Pinterest campaigns appear in the Ads Manager, including Pinterest rows that TrueROAS could not match to a campaign, is explained in How do Google, TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat campaigns differ in the Ads Manager?.
Good to know
- TrueROAS does not check your Snapchat or Pinterest ads for the code. These tabs have no list of ads and no statuses, so check each ad yourself.
- TrueROAS cannot add the code to these ads for you.
- The code lives in your ads on the ad platform, so it counts for the whole store.
- TrueROAS records the code with every visit that comes through the ad, whether or not the ad platform is connected. Connecting is what brings your campaigns and spend into the Ads Manager.
- The Pinterest code carries the campaign name at the moment of the click. If you rename a Pinterest campaign, sales from clicks made before the rename keep the old name and can show on a separate row.
- What happens to the sales you already have is explained in Why do sales from my ads show as untracked or organic?.
