How do I compare with the previous period?

Pick Previous period or Last month, same dates under Compare to, then read the previous value and the green or red percentage on the sales and order cards.

Pick what to compare with

  1. Click Compare to in the row of controls above the cards. Under the label it shows the dates of the comparison period.
  2. Choose one of the two options:
    • Previous period: the same number of days right before your date range. With 1 to 7 September selected, that is 25 to 31 August.
    • Last month, same dates: the same dates one month earlier. With 1 to 7 September selected, that is 1 to 7 August. When the month before is shorter, so is the comparison period: 1 to 31 May is compared with 1 to 30 April.
  3. The choice is saved to your login right away and the cards reload.

While the comparison period loads, the button shows a small spinner.

These cards show a previous value and a percentage: Total Sales, Total Orders, Blended AOV, Meta Ad Sales, Meta Sales, Google Ads Sales, Organic Sales, TikTok Sales, Email Sales, Direct Sales, Bing Sales, WhatsApp Revenue and Other Sources. The customers ring, the channel table, the Channels chart and the Sales Trend card compare too, as described below. Every other card ignores the comparison period, including the ad spend, ROAS, CPA, MER, CAC, profit and POAS cards and the cards with numbers reported by an ad platform.

  • On a full-size card, the previous value sits to the right of the big number, followed by on and the dates it covers. The percentage sits in the title row, next to the card's icon.
  • On a small card, the previous value sits to the right of the number, above the chart. Hover over it to see Previous periods value. The percentage sits next to the icons under the title.
  • A green label such as +12.5% means the number is higher than in the comparison period. A red label such as -8.0% means it is lower, and a number that did not change shows a red 0.0%. The label is left out when either number is 0.
  • The customers ring shows a percentage next to New and next to Returning.
  • In the channel table the percentage sits next to Sales, Conversions, New Customers and AoV. See How do I read the channel table on the Dashboard?.
  • The Channels chart shows a percentage next to each bar, and the Sales Trend card lists the sources that moved the most between the two periods. See What do the cards on the Summary dashboard mean?.
  • The AI Summary compares the same two periods in words. See What is the AI Summary at the top of the Dashboard?.
  • The second number and the percentage on the TrueROAS vs Meta Ads, TrueROAS vs Google Ads and TrueROAS vs TikTok Ads cards have nothing to do with the comparison period. See What do the cards on the Summary dashboard mean?.

Good to know

  • Green always means higher, and red means lower or unchanged.
  • The comparison is only loaded for date ranges of up to 31 days, counting the first and the last day, so 1 to 31 August gets one. With 32 days or more, Compare to still shows comparison dates, but nothing is loaded for that period and the cards show no comparison percentage.
  • The comparison period's ad spend is loaded for Meta Ads, Google Ads and spend you entered by hand, but no card shows it. The AI Summary and Export for AI use it; see What does Export for AI download?. Spend from TikTok, Pinterest and other ad platforms is not loaded for the comparison period.
  • Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which channel gets credit for a sale. With Incremental Attribution on, the comparison period uses it too, but the sales it moves there are split between Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and Pinterest using your date range's numbers, not the comparison period's own.
  • The setting is saved to your login. Other people on the store keep their own.
  • You cannot pick your own comparison dates, and the Ads Manager does not show a comparison period.
