What is Trew Media Buyer and how do I use it?

Trew Media Buyer changes your Meta and Google ads when you ask in plain words, and nothing changes until you approve the plan.

What it does

Trew Media Buyer is a chat inside TrueROAS. You ask for a change in your Meta or Google ads in plain words. Trew reads your ad accounts, checks your ads against your real orders and shows you a plan. Nothing changes in your ad accounts until you approve it.

You can also ask Trew about your numbers, for example which ads sell and which do not. Longer answers come as a report you can open and share. See How do I open and share a report from Trew?.

Trew is in beta and can make mistakes. Check important numbers and changes before you act on them.

Open it

  1. Click Trew Media Buyer in the left menu. This opens the full page.
  2. Or click the Trew tab on the right edge of any page. This opens Trew in a panel next to the page you are on. On a phone, tap the round Trew button in the bottom left corner.

Ask about the page you are on

When you open Trew in the panel next to a page, it knows which page you are on. The tooltip of the Trew tab reads Ask Trew Media Buyer about this page. Trew is in beta. The page and your date range show at the top of the panel.

On the Dashboard, Trew also gets the numbers on your screen: your totals, each channel, the period you compare with and whether Incremental Attribution is on. Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which ad or channel gets credit for a sale.

While the chat is empty, Trew suggests a few questions about the page. Click one to send it.

  • On the Dashboard: What changed vs the previous period, and why?, Which channel over-reports the most vs verified sales? and Where should I move budget this week?
  • In the Ads Manager: Which campaigns lose money on verified numbers?, Show my top 5 ads by verified ROAS and Which ads look good on Meta but bad in reality?
  • Other pages show other suggestions.

To ask without the page, click the x next to the page name at the top of the panel. The label then reads Page context off. Click Turn on to bring the page back. It also comes back by itself when you go to another page.

Set it up the first time

  1. Open Trew Media Buyer.
  2. Under the chat box, click Set up Trew for my store. 2 minutes, so every plan fits my business.
  3. Answer the questions Trew asks, one at a time.

Trew saves your answers and uses them in every plan. Until setup is done, the page also shows an example chat with a made-up store and made-up numbers. Nothing in the example touches your ads.

You can skip setup and ask Trew anything right away. The setup prompt stays under the chat box until you have done it.

Ask for a change

  1. Type what you want in the chat box, or click one of the prompts under it. The Meta and Google marks on a prompt show which ad account it changes.
  2. Trew shows a plan with each change listed, what it is today and what it will be.
  3. Click Approve to make the changes, or Not now to leave everything as it is. With more than one change, the button reads Approve all followed by the number of changes.

A large plan runs in parts that you approve one at a time. See Why does Trew ask me to approve ad changes in parts?.

Undo a change

  1. On the Trew Media Buyer page, click Changes in the panel on the right.
  2. Find the change and click Undo. It goes back to how it was before.

You can also click Undo next to a change in the chat where you approved it.

Changes also lists the Meta campaigns, ad sets and ads you switch on or off and the daily budgets you change in the Ads Manager, marked Ads Manager page. See How do I pause an ad or change a daily budget from the Ads Manager?.
