How do I bring in orders from before I installed TrueROAS?
New Shopify and WooCommerce stores can bring in about 60 days of past orders, so the Dashboard has numbers from the first day.
Where the import starts
TrueROAS tracks your orders from the moment it is installed on your store. To fill in the weeks before that, it can import your past orders from Shopify or WooCommerce, once per store.
Shopify
The import reads your orders through the TrueROAS app, so the app must be installed in Shopify first. The import then starts by itself in the background. If it has finished by the time you open the Dashboard, you will not see any import button.
If no import has finished yet, you can start it from:
- The setup card at the top of the Dashboard: Import Orders while the card is waiting for your first visits or orders, and Backfill Orders once it reads Setup Complete. See What does the setup card at the top of the Dashboard mean?.
- The Import Historical Orders card. From 24 hours to 7 days after your store was added, once setup is complete, it sits in the setup card's place with Import orders from before you installed TrueROAS to see your performance right away. and an Import Orders button.
- The Setup TrueROAS panel, which Continue Setup opens. A Backfill Orders button sits under your store's name. Once your store is reporting, click Show details to see it.
Where the button reads Import Orders, the import also starts by itself, once per browser tab. Reloading the page does not start it again; click Import Orders to start it yourself.
WooCommerce
The import needs your WooCommerce API keys. If you skipped them when you added your store:
- Click General Settings at the bottom of the left menu and open the Store Settings tab.
- Under Store Platforms, click Connect on WooCommerce API Keys.
- Follow How to generate your API keys, paste your Consumer Key and Consumer Secret, and click Connect API. You will see API keys connected successfully!
The import then runs from the setup card only, so there is no import button once the card is gone. While the card is waiting for your first visits or orders, it starts by itself, once per browser tab, without a button. Once the card reads Setup Complete, click Backfill Orders.
Follow the import
- A card titled Importing Orders slides in at the top right of the screen, with a progress bar and a line that says what it is doing. An import can take a few minutes.
- While it runs, the card counts the orders as Orders Fetched and then Orders Saved, next to their Revenue.
- When it is done, the card reads Import Complete! with Orders, Attributed and Revenue in your store's currency, for example Revenue (USD). Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which ad or channel gets credit for a sale. Attributed counts the imported orders that came from somewhere other than a direct visit.
- Reloading in 5s... counts down and the page reloads with the new orders. To stay on the page, click Dismiss and reload the page yourself later.
Keep the page open until you see Import Complete!, because leaving or reloading the page closes the progress card.
When the import has finished, the import buttons and the Import Historical Orders card are gone.
If the import fails
The progress card turns into Import Failed with the reason, for example An error occurred during import, and a Close button. On the Import Historical Orders card the line reads We couldn't import your orders automatically. Please retry the import.
To try again, click Retry Import, Import Orders or Backfill Orders, whichever the card shows. A WooCommerce import that started by itself has no button. It starts again by itself the next time you open TrueROAS in a new browser tab. Once the setup card reads Setup Complete, you can also click Backfill Orders.
Good to know
- The imported orders are added to the whole store, so everyone on the store sees them.
- Each store gets one import. Once it has finished, you cannot run it again or choose a period longer than 60 days.
- Shopify imports the orders from the 60 days before your store was added to TrueROAS, newest first, up to 10,000 orders. On a very busy store it can stop early to finish in time. It keeps the orders it already has, so the oldest days can be missing, and that counts as the finished import.
- WooCommerce imports the orders from the last 60 days, counted back from the day the import runs, up to 1,000 orders, newest first.
- Where each imported order came from is taken from the visit details Shopify or WooCommerce saved with the order, such as UTM tags, not from TrueROAS tracking. Orders without those details count as direct visits.
- Stores that are not on Shopify or WooCommerce cannot import past orders.
