How do I connect, refresh or disconnect my Facebook account for Meta Ads?
Connect your Facebook login on the Meta Ads card, renew it with Refresh access token or disconnect it, and then pick your Meta ad account.
What the Meta connection does
TrueROAS uses your Facebook login to read your Meta ad accounts, campaigns, ad sets, ads and spend. When you connect, Facebook asks you to let TrueROAS see the Pages you manage and how people engage with them, read and manage your ads, and manage your business assets. Managing your ads is what lets you pause ads and change daily budgets from TrueROAS, as described in How do I pause an ad or change a daily budget from the Ads Manager?.
Log in with a Facebook account that has access to the Meta ad account you advertise with, for example as a person in your Meta business. Connecting does not pick an ad account. You do that afterwards, as shown in the last step below.
Connecting Meta here does not send your sales to Meta. That is the Enhanced Meta CAPI card at the top of the Integrations page, whose switch stays greyed out until Meta is connected. See How do I set up Meta CAPI in Events Manager?.
Connect Meta
- Open Setup in the left menu and click Integrations. Find the Meta Ads card under Advertising Platforms. The same card is on the Ad Platforms tab of General Settings.
- Click Connect. The window Connect Facebook Account opens with You don't have an active Meta integration.
- Click Connect via Facebook. If you log in to TrueROAS with Facebook, the button reads Re-Connect via Facebook.
- A Facebook window opens. Log in and allow the access TrueROAS asks for. If no window opens, allow pop-ups for TrueROAS in your browser and click the button again.
- The window now reads Connected to followed by your name or email, and the card shows Connected.
- Pick the ad account for this store in the Meta ad account field, on the Meta dashboard or in the panel that opens from your profile picture. See How do I connect or change the ad account behind the Meta, Google and Tiktok tabs?. To use more than one Meta ad account, see Can I combine several Meta ad accounts in one store?.
If you close the Facebook window or do not allow access, nothing is saved and no message appears. Click Connect via Facebook again to retry.
Renew the connection
Click Connected on the Meta Ads card to open the window, then click Refresh access token under the Disconnect button.
- The Facebook window opens again. Log in and allow access.
- TrueROAS saves the new connection to your login. The ad account you picked for each store stays as it is.
No message confirms it. Use it when you want to renew the connection yourself, for example after you changed your Facebook password. When TrueROAS finds that Meta no longer accepts your connection, it opens its own window instead. See What do I do when my Meta or Google Ads connection stops working?.
Disconnect Meta
- Click Connected on the Meta Ads card.
- Click Disconnect. If you log in to TrueROAS with Facebook, your Facebook email follows the word.
- There is no confirmation. You see Success: Please hold while page is being reloaded. and the page reloads.
Disconnecting removes the Meta connection from your login, so your stores load no Meta numbers until you connect again. Your other stores keep their ad account choice. For the store you have open, check the Meta ad account field after you connect again, and pick your ad account if it is empty. What a removed connection means for team members who use it is explained in How do I connect or change the ad account behind the Meta, Google and Tiktok tabs?, which also covers Disconnect Meta in Choose Meta ad accounts.
Warning: If you log in to TrueROAS with Facebook, Disconnect also unlinks Facebook from your TrueROAS login. Add an email and password to your login first, so you can still log in, as described in How do I change the email or password I log in with?.
When the connection is someone else's
The window looks different when the Meta connection in use is not only yours:
- A line that starts with Using and a name and ends with Only they can disconnect or re-link it. You use the store owner's Meta connection, or the store's own connection that an Admin added, and the name is theirs. The window has no buttons.
- Your Meta connection is used by the whole store. followed by a request to have the store owner reconnect their own account before you disconnect. The store runs on your own Facebook login, so you cannot disconnect it here. You can still renew it with Refresh access token.
- As the store owner, you can see a line that starts with Connected by, with a team member's name and a date, and ends with Reconnect to use your own account instead. A team member's Facebook login is in use for the whole store. Click Refresh access token and log in with your own Facebook account.
How team members switch between the store owner's connection and their own is explained in What do I do when my Meta or Google Ads connection stops working?. When an Admin's login becomes the store's own connection is explained in How does my team share Meta and Google Ads connections?.
Good to know
- The connection is saved to your login and works for all your stores, while the Meta ad account is picked per store. See How do I connect or change the ad account behind the Meta, Google and Tiktok tabs?.
- If you log in to TrueROAS with Facebook, each Facebook login also saves your Facebook connection for Meta Ads, so the card shows Connected without the steps above.
- The card and its window do not show which Meta ad account is picked for the store.
- Connected on the card only means that a Facebook login is saved. It does not check that Meta still accepts it, or that an ad account is picked. See Why does an ad platform show Connected but no spend or campaigns?.
- TrueROAS cannot connect Meta for you. Someone with access to your Meta ad account has to log in to Facebook.
