How do I connect Claude or ChatGPT to TrueROAS?

Add TrueROAS as a custom connector in Claude or ChatGPT, sign in with your TrueROAS login and ask about your store in plain words.

What the connection does

Once connected, Claude or ChatGPT can read your TrueROAS numbers, such as revenue, ad spend, ROAS and campaign results, and answer questions about your store in plain words. That includes the sales TrueROAS gives to each channel and ad. Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which ad gets the credit for a sale.

The connection uses MCP, a standard way for AI tools to talk to other apps. That is why its section on the Integrations page is called AI MCP. Claude and ChatGPT connect with your TrueROAS login, so you do not need a token. For Claude Code, Cursor and other developer tools, see How do I connect Claude Code or Cursor with an access token?.

Before you start

  • Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan, or a Plus, Pro or Business plan in ChatGPT. The setup page notes the same.
  • Open the setup page: open Setup in the left menu, click Integrations, find AI MCP and click the button on the Claude, ChatGPT & more card. Before you connect, the button reads Set up. The page Connect AI Assistants opens.
  • Skip 1. Your access token. The page says it is only needed for Claude Code and Cursor.
  • Under 2. Connect your AI tool, pick the tab Claude (web & desktop) or ChatGPT. The copy button in the top right corner of the steps box copies the steps, so you can keep them next to you.

The menu names below come from Claude and ChatGPT, and those apps can rename them.

Connect Claude

These are the steps on the Claude (web & desktop) tab. The Claude web app at claude.ai and the desktop app use the same Connectors menu.

  1. In Claude, open Settings and then Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Enter TrueROAS as the name and https://app.trueroas.com/api/trew-mcp as the URL.
  4. Click Add. Leave any advanced or OAuth fields empty.
  5. Click Connect. A TrueROAS sign-in window opens.
  6. Log in and click Allow Access, as described below.

Connect ChatGPT

These are the steps on the ChatGPT tab.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings and then Apps & Connectors.
  2. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode. ChatGPT needs it for custom connectors.
  3. Click Create or Add custom connector.
  4. Enter TrueROAS as the name and https://app.trueroas.com/api/trew-mcp as the MCP Server URL.
  5. Choose OAuth as the authentication.
  6. Save. A TrueROAS sign-in window opens. Log in and click Allow Access, as described below.

Allow access in the TrueROAS window

  1. If you are not logged in to TrueROAS in that browser, the window first shows the normal TrueROAS login.
  2. The window then reads Connect, the name of your AI tool and to TrueROAS, followed by what the tool will be able to do. The list depends on what your AI tool asks for:
    • See your store's performance, with Revenue, ad spend, ROAS and campaign results.
    • Read your saved business profile, with Notes and facts your AI assistant already knows.
    • Save new learnings about your business, with So future conversations pick up where you left off.
    • Read your past AI conversations, with Earlier chats with your TrueROAS assistant. This one only shows when your AI tool asks for it.
  3. Click Allow Access. The button reads Connecting... while it works, and then the window hands you back to your AI tool.

Click Cancel instead to stop. Your AI tool is told that you did not allow access.

If the window shows Connection Problem, go back to your AI tool and connect again. The message under the heading is one of these:

  • This connection link is incomplete. Please go back to your AI assistant and try connecting again.
  • We don't recognize the app that's trying to connect. Please go back to your AI assistant and try connecting again.
  • The app that's trying to connect sent an invalid return address, so we stopped the connection to keep your account safe.
  • We couldn't complete the connection. Please go back to your AI assistant and try again.
  • Something went wrong. Please try connecting again.

Check that it works

  • Ask your AI tool a question. Under 5. What you can ask, the setup page suggests What was my Meta ROAS last week?, Compare TrueROAS-attributed sales to platform-reported sales by channel for the last 30 days. and Show daily revenue and orders by channel for May.
  • Back on the Integrations page, the Claude, ChatGPT & more card shows Connected in green once your AI tool has used the connection. Under it you see last used, how long ago, and the name of the tool, such as Claude, Claude Desktop or ChatGPT. The button then reads Connected and still opens the setup page.
  • If the card shows Pending in orange and the button reads Setup guide, the connection exists but your AI tool has not used it yet. It turns to Connected after your AI tool's first request.
  • Test connection under 3. Test the connection only works with a token you just made on that page, so it stays greyed out for Claude and ChatGPT. Ask your AI tool a question instead.

What your AI tool can see and save

  • It can read the stores on your TrueROAS login. If you have more than one store, tell it which store you mean. Otherwise it uses the store you last selected in TrueROAS.
  • What it saves about your business is added to what TrueROAS knows about the store you last selected in TrueROAS, which Trew Media Buyer and Alert Agent also read.
  • The numbers it reads from TrueROAS are sent to that AI tool, so the AI tool's own terms apply to them.
