How do I connect Microsoft Ads?
Choose whether you sign in to Microsoft Advertising with Microsoft or Google, then pick the account whose spend TrueROAS should load.
What the Microsoft Ads connection does
TrueROAS reads the spend of the Microsoft Advertising account you pick and adds it to your Dashboard. When that account uses a different currency from your store, the spend is converted to your store currency. Microsoft Ads campaigns are not listed in the Ads Manager.
- Which Dashboard cards include Microsoft Ads spend, and the names it has there, is explained in Which ad spend and costs does each Dashboard card add up?.
- Where sales from Microsoft Ads and Bing show, also in the Ads Manager, is explained in Why don't my Dashboard Meta or Google sales match the Ads Manager?.
Microsoft Advertising lets you log in with a Microsoft account or with a Google account. Before you start, check which one you use to log in to Microsoft Advertising.
Connect Microsoft Ads
- Open Setup in the left menu and click Integrations. Under Advertising Platforms, find the Microsoft Ads card and click Connect. The window Connect Microsoft Ads Account opens. The same card is on the Ad Platforms tab of General Settings.
- Click Connect Microsoft Ads.
- A window asks How do you sign in to Microsoft Advertising? with the text Choose the account you use to log in to Microsoft Advertising. Many advertisers sign in with Google. Click I sign in with Microsoft or I sign in with Google.
- A sign-in window opens. If your browser blocks it, you see Please allow popups for this site to connect with Microsoft Ads. Allow pop-ups for TrueROAS and start again from step 2.
- Sign in and allow the access TrueROAS asks for. With Microsoft, you first choose which Microsoft account to use. Finish this within 5 minutes of choosing how you sign in.
- The sign-in window closes and you see Successfully connected to Microsoft Ads! The page does not reload. The account list opens right away and loads your accounts.
If you see Microsoft Ads connection failed: Authentication failed, the sign-in did not go through, for example because it took longer than 5 minutes. Click Connect Microsoft Ads and sign in again.
When you choose I sign in with Google, TrueROAS only asks Google for your basic profile, such as your name, and your email address, which Microsoft Advertising uses to find your account. This is a separate connection from the Google Ads card and does not connect Google Ads.
Pick the account
- The Select Microsoft Ads Account list shows Loading Microsoft Ads accounts... while it loads. If your Microsoft Advertising login has exactly one account, it is picked for you.
- Open the list and pick the account. Each account shows its name with its ID in brackets.
- You see Microsoft Ads account connected successfully.
The next time you open the card's window, it shows the name of the account you picked, or Choose ad account here when none is picked. Click it to open the list again.
Other messages you can see:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| No ad accounts found for this Microsoft account. Make sure you have a Microsoft Advertising account set up. | The login you signed in with has no Microsoft Advertising account. Check that you chose the right sign-in, Microsoft or Google. |
| Failed to fetch Microsoft Ads accounts | TrueROAS could not load your accounts from Microsoft Advertising. Try again. |
| Failed to connect Microsoft Ads account or Account not found. Please try again. | The account you picked was not saved. Pick it again. |
The list shows up to 100 accounts that your Microsoft Advertising login can open.
You can also pick the account in the panel that opens from your profile picture in the top right corner, under Your ad accounts. Before you connect, Microsoft Ads shows there as a Microsoft tile under Add more. Clicking the tile asks the same sign-in question.
If Microsoft Ads stops loading
TrueROAS renews its access to Microsoft Advertising by itself. Each time you open TrueROAS, it also checks your own Microsoft Ads connection. If Microsoft no longer accepts it, TrueROAS removes it and opens a window with Microsoft Ads token is invalid. That window is explained in What do I do when my Meta or Google Ads connection stops working?. Click Connect Microsoft Ads in it, or on the card, and sign in again.
Apart from that check, the card shows no warning and has no reconnect button. If spend stops loading while the card reads Connected, disconnect Microsoft Ads as described below and connect it again. You then pick the account again.
Disconnect Microsoft Ads
- Open the Select Microsoft Ads Account list, in the card's window or in the panel under your profile picture.
- Click Disconnect at the bottom of the list.
There is no confirmation. You see Successfully disconnected from Microsoft Ads, or Failed to disconnect from Microsoft Ads if it did not work. Disconnecting removes the Microsoft Ads connection from your login and clears the account picked for the store you have open.
Good to know
- The Microsoft Ads connection is saved to your login and works for all your stores. The account is saved to your login for each store, so pick one for every store that runs Microsoft Ads.
- You can pick one Microsoft Ads account per store. The list has no No ad account chosen choice. To stop loading Microsoft Ads spend, use Disconnect, which removes the connection for all your stores.
- TrueROAS cannot pause Microsoft Ads campaigns or change their budgets.
- Microsoft Ads does not count for the Connect ad accounts step of the setup card. See What does the setup card at the top of the Dashboard mean?.
- If you are a Team Member or Store Access user and the store owner has connected Microsoft Ads, your Microsoft Ads spend loads through the store owner's connection and the account the store owner picked for the store. Microsoft Ads is read-only in the panel under your profile picture. To use your own logins instead, switch to Mine in that panel.
- If the card reads Connected but no spend shows, see Why does an ad platform show Connected but no spend or campaigns?.
