How do I connect Klaviyo to TrueROAS?
Connect Klaviyo from the Klaviyo Sendback card to see Klaviyo's order numbers on the Dashboard, send a test event or disconnect it again.
Where to find Klaviyo
- On the Integrations page, the Klaviyo Sendback card is the last card under Feed Ad Platforms True Data.
- The same card is in General Settings on the Ad Platforms tab, and on the Data Settings tab under Feed to Ad Platforms.
- Events Manager lists Klaviyo as Klaviyo Data Sendback. Pick it there to see the same controls as the window described below. Before Klaviyo is connected, click Configure Klaviyo first. See What is Events Manager and what can I do there?.
The card tells you where you stand:
| What the card shows | What it means |
|---|---|
| Needs attention in red, button Configure | Klaviyo is not connected yet. |
| Connected in green, button Reporting: ON | Klaviyo is connected and switched on. |
| No status, button Reporting: OFF | Klaviyo is connected but switched off. |
| Button Subscription Required | There is no active TrueROAS subscription. |
| Button CAPI Add-on Required, card blurred | Your plan needs the CAPI add-on before you can open the card. See Do I need the CAPI add-on to send events to ad platforms?. |
The switch on the card only shows whether Klaviyo is on. To change it, open the card.
Connect Klaviyo
- Click the button on the Klaviyo Sendback card. The window Klaviyo Data Sendback opens. It shows Klaviyo account not connected and the label Not Connected.
- Click Connect Klaviyo. A Klaviyo window opens and the button reads Connecting....
- Log in to Klaviyo and allow access. TrueROAS asks Klaviyo for permission to read and create events and profiles, and to read your metrics.
- The Klaviyo window closes by itself and a message confirms that Klaviyo is connected.
- The label in the window now reads Active. Connecting switches Klaviyo on straight away.
If something goes wrong:
- Popup was blocked. Please allow popups for this site. Allow pop-ups for app.trueroas.com in your browser and click Connect Klaviyo again.
- Please connect a store first means no store is selected. Pick your store in the store list and try again.
- Finish in the Klaviyo window within 5 minutes. After that the connection fails and you need to start again.
- A failed connection shows a message that starts with Klaviyo connection failed: or Connection failed:, followed by the reason.
What you see from Klaviyo
On the Dashboard channel table, the small figures on the Email row show Klaviyo's own numbers. They are the total value and the number of all Placed Order events in your Klaviyo account for your date range. That is every order Klaviyo recorded, not only the orders Klaviyo credits to an email. If your Klaviyo account has no Placed Order value in that period, or TrueROAS cannot read it from Klaviyo, the Email row shows no Klaviyo figures. How to read the rest of the table is explained in How do I read the channel table on the Dashboard?.
The big numbers on the Email row come from TrueROAS's own tracking, not from Klaviyo. Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which channel or ad gets the credit for a sale, and TrueROAS gives a sale to email when the customer came from an email link it can recognise, for example by its UTM tags.
Send a test event
While Klaviyo is switched on, the window has a Send Test Event button.
- Click Send Test Event. The button reads Sending... while it works.
- TrueROAS looks for the newest order with an email address among your store's 10 most recent orders from the last 7 days. It sends that order to the customer's profile in Klaviyo as a Placed Order event, and you see Real order event sent successfully to Klaviyo.
- Without such an order, it sends an event called TrueROAS Test Event for the address trueroas-test@example.com instead, and you see Test event sent successfully to Klaviyo.
If it fails, you see Failed to send test event or the reason Klaviyo gave.
Note: The test event is added to a real customer's profile in your Klaviyo account when TrueROAS finds a recent order with an email address.
Switch it off or disconnect
- To switch Klaviyo off for the store, turn off the switch next to Klaviyo Data Sendback at the top of the window. You see Klaviyo sendback deactivated, the label Inactive and the line Connected but inactive. Turn the switch on again to see Klaviyo sendback activated. If the change cannot be saved, you see Could not update Klaviyo.
- To remove the connection, click Disconnect Klaviyo at the bottom of the window. You see Klaviyo disconnected, or Failed to disconnect Klaviyo if it did not work. The Email row then no longer shows Klaviyo's figures.
Good to know
- The connection is for the whole store. Everyone on the store sees Klaviyo's figures on the Email row.
- A store connects one Klaviyo account. To use another one, disconnect and connect again with the other account.
- Klaviyo's figures on the Email row also show while Klaviyo is connected but switched off.
- When your subscription has the CAPI add-on, a store with Klaviyo switched on counts as one of the stores you pay the add-on for, even when no ad platform is switched on. How that count works is explained in Do I need the CAPI add-on to send events to ad platforms?.
- Klaviyo's figures use your browser's time zone, which can differ from your store's time zone. See Which currency and time zone do my numbers use?.
- Klaviyo is the only email tool you can connect. You do not need it to see sales from email, whichever email tool sent the link. See What is Organic & Unassigned and what do its rows mean?.
- On a phone the Klaviyo Data Sendback window opens full screen.
