What does the Search and AI tab show?
The Search and AI tab on the Website page shows your free Google clicks, brand searches against your ads, AI tool visits and orders, and what ChatGPT says.
What you see on the tab
Open Website and choose Search and AI. Every card names where its numbers come from, as a logo next to the number or in the note under the card. Changes compare with the previous period of the same length, just before your chosen dates.
| Card | What it shows | Where the numbers come from |
|---|---|---|
| Clicks from Google search | Clicks, Times shown, Click rate and Average position from free Google results, with a chart per day. The last 2 days are marked Not final. | Google Search Console |
| Brand searches vs your ads | Free clicks, Ad clicks, Ad cost and Ads' share for searches that contain your brand words, and what your brand campaign sold. | Free clicks from Google Search Console, ad clicks and cost from Google Ads, Sales from your orders |
| Almost on page 1 | Searches where Google ranks you 11 to 20 and shows you at least 50 times, and the Pages Google shows most. | Google Search Console |
| Visits and orders from AI tools | For each AI tool: Visits, Orders helped, Sales helped and New customers. | Visits from Google Analytics, orders from your orders |
| Does ChatGPT name you? | How often ChatGPT names your brand or links your site when asked questions about what you sell. | Answers from ChatGPT |
| Long questions on Google | Searches of 5 words or more, or that start with a question word, that showed your site. | Google Search Console |
| Can AI tools read your site? | Whether each AI tool may read your site, split into tools that show you in answers and tools that learn from your site. | The robots.txt file on your site, and a visit to your home page |
Under Brand searches vs your ads, Ads' share is the part of the clicks on your own name that came from your ads. Google Ads hides searches with few clicks, so not every ad click has a search.
Orders helped and credited orders
Orders helped counts every order where a visit from the AI tool was anywhere in the buyer's journey. An order counts once in the total, even when several AI tools helped.
The grey line under a tool, for example Credited 3 orders, counts only the orders your dashboard gives to that tool. It is usually smaller, because an ad often gets the credit for an order that an AI tool helped start.
Visits come from Google Analytics. Paid ChatGPT ads are not counted here.
ChatGPT checks
The Does ChatGPT name you? card asks ChatGPT real shopping questions and notes whether the answer uses one of your brand words or links your site.
- A check asks up to 25 questions, and each question is asked 3 times. ChatGPT answers differently each time, so the result is a sample and not a ranking.
- The questions come from your top Google searches and your best-selling products, unless you write your own. Questions are asked as a shopper in your store's main country.
- The first check starts by itself the first time you open the tab. You can follow its progress on the card. If a check fails, the next one does not start on its own: select Check again.
- Check again starts a new check. Each store can run up to 4 checks a month, and the card shows checks left this month. When none are left it shows the date of the next check.
- Select Edit questions to add, remove or replace questions. Select Use automatic questions to go back to the suggested ones. Changes apply from the next check.
Brand words
Brand words decide which searches count as your name. Select Edit brand words on Brand searches vs your ads to change them. A word needs at least 4 letters, and a search counts when it contains one of your words. Until you add words, TrueROAS uses suggested words taken from your store's name and web address. Select Use the suggested words to go back to them.
When a card asks you to connect Google
The search cards need your Google login. If you see Connect Google to see your Google search numbers or Connect Google again to see your Google search numbers, select the link and sign in with the Google login that can open your site in Google Search Console. Logins connected a while ago may need this once, because they were connected before Search Console access was added.
Other messages tell you what is missing:
- Add your site to Google Search Console to see these numbers. Open Search Console and add your site.
- Your Google login can't open this site in Search Console. Sign in with a Google login that has access to the site.
- Connect Google Ads to compare or Connect Google again to compare with your ads. The brand card needs Google Ads to show ad clicks and cost.
- Ask (owner's name) to connect Google again. When the store uses its owner's Google login, only the owner can reconnect it.
Good to know
- Brand words and questions are saved for the whole store. Only people who can edit the store's settings can change them.
- Google Search Console data comes in about 2 days late, so the latest days can still change.
- The tab does not show Google AI Overviews, answers from Perplexity, Gemini or Claude, or leads. It counts orders only, so a store that collects leads instead of orders sees 0 sales on the brand card.
- A visit from an AI app that sends no source information can show up as direct traffic, so it is missed in visits and orders helped.
