Why does Product Attribution show products I don't sell?

When TrueROAS has no products to show for your dates or cannot load them, the list fills with made-up sample products instead of yours.

When the list shows sample products

Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which ad gets the credit for a sale. Product Attribution normally lists your own products and where the customers who bought them came from. When there is nothing of your own to show, the list fills with made-up sample products instead. Only when your login has no store does the page say so. In every other case, nothing on the page tells you that they are samples.

This happens when:

  • Your login has no store yet. The No Stores Added card then sits at the top of the page and reads You're viewing demo data. See your own metrics in just 2 minutes!
  • No order in your date range has a product that counts. For example, the store had no orders in that period, or it tracks leads instead of orders. Which orders and products count is explained in Why is a product missing from Product Attribution?.
  • Your products could not be loaded, for example because of a connection problem. The page then shows sample products instead of an error message.
  • You just opened or reloaded the page. Sample products can show for a moment until your store has loaded, and then your own products replace them.

How to recognise sample products

  • Until you search, there are 250 of them, so with 50 rows per page the line under the list reads 1–50 of 250.
  • Each name joins a made-up brand, a word, a colour and a product type, such as NorthStyle Premium Black T-Shirt or UrbanFit Eco-Friendly Navy Hoodie. Other brands are EcoWear, TechGear, OutdoorLife, CityTrend and ActiveLife.
  • Each product has three to five sources, such as Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Email or Direct.
  • Avg. Price is between 10 and 160, and Quantity Sold is between 1 and 500.
  • They change every time the list loads. While your login has no store, they also change every time you type in the search box.

What to do

  1. If your login has no store, click Add New Store in the No Stores Added card and connect your store. See How do I add a store to TrueROAS?.
  2. Pick a date range in which your store had orders, for example Last 30 Days. See How do I change the date range?.
  3. Reload the page, in case your products could not be loaded the first time.
  4. If sample products show for a long date range but your own products show for a shorter one, use the shorter range.
  5. Check that your orders are reaching TrueROAS, as explained in Why are my newest orders or ad spend not showing yet?. Orders from before you installed TrueROAS only show once they are imported. See How do I bring in orders from before I installed TrueROAS?.
  6. If you still see sample products, contact support as explained in How do I get help or contact TrueROAS support?.

Good to know

  • Sample products are only shown on your screen. They are not saved and do not count in any other number in TrueROAS.
  • Sample products are not a setting of your login. Anyone on the store who opens the page for a date range without products sees them too.
  • There is no setting to hide sample products or to show an empty list instead.
  • Other pages show sample data of their own before you add a store. See What does the setup card at the top of the Dashboard mean?.
