How do I transfer my store to another owner?

The store owner copies a transfer link in Store Settings, and the store moves to whoever opens it while logged in within 7 days.

Before you start

  • Only the store owner can make a transfer link. Anyone else who opens the window sees This is only for store owners (you are not the owner of the store).
  • The link is for the store you have open. Switch to the store you want to hand over first. See How do I switch between my stores?.
  • The new owner needs a TrueROAS login, or creates one when they open the link.

To give someone access to the store without handing it over, invite them to your team instead. See How do I invite someone to my team?.

  1. Click General Settings at the bottom of the left menu and open the Store Settings tab.
  2. Under Store Management, click Transfer on the Transfer Store Ownership card (Transfer ownership of your store to another user).
  3. The Transfer store ownership window shows the link in a box labelled When this link is used, ownership is transferred.
  4. Click Copy to clipboard. The button turns grey and What now? appears, with a reminder to send the link to the person who should own the store.
  5. Send the link to the new owner, for example by email.

TrueROAS makes a new link each time you open the window and each time you copy one, so after copying, the box shows a newer link than the one you copied. Each link works for 7 days.

Warning: Anyone who opens a working link while logged in to TrueROAS becomes the owner of the store. Only send it to the person who should own the store.

What the new owner does

  1. They open the link. If they are not logged in, they see the TrueROAS login screen. They log in, or click Sign up next to New here? to create a login. See How do I create a TrueROAS account and log in?.
  2. The store moves to them as soon as the page has loaded, and a green message confirms it. There is no button to confirm first.
  3. The page reads You now have ownership of followed by the store's address, with the line You claimed ownership of the store and a Go to dashboard button.
  4. To open the store, they pick it in their store list, as described in How do I switch between my stores?.

If something goes wrong:

  • A link older than 7 days shows Link not valid. The link may have expired or been removed. Ask the store owner for a new link.
  • A link that was cut short, for example because it was not copied in full, can show Invite link invalid. Ask the store owner to send the whole link again.
  • If the transfer itself fails, a red message asks the new owner to contact support.

What changes after the transfer

Good to know

  • You cannot see or cancel a transfer link once it is made. It stops working after 7 days.
  • One link moves one store. Repeat the steps for each store you want to hand over.
  • To get the store back, the new owner sends you a transfer link.
  • On a phone, the Transfer store ownership window fills the screen.
