How do I mark my Google branded search campaigns?

Mark the Google Ads campaigns that bid on your brand name so they get less credit when TrueROAS decides which click led to a sale.

Mark your branded campaigns

Attribution is how TrueROAS decides which ad gets credit for a sale. A branded campaign is a Google Ads campaign that shows your ad when people search for your store or brand name. Many of those people already found you through another ad, so you can tell TrueROAS to give your branded campaigns less credit.

  1. Click General Settings at the bottom of the left menu.
  2. Open the Data Settings tab. It opens on Customize Attribution.
  3. Scroll to Lower Google Ads Branded Campaign Impact (Select which campaigns should be considered as branded campaigns and reduced weight in attribution.).
  4. Click the field under it. Your Google Ads campaigns load, with grey rows while they load.
  5. Click each campaign that bids on your brand name. Each campaign you pick is saved for the whole store right away. There is no Save button and no message.
  6. Click outside the list to close it.

The list shows the Google Ads campaigns that had impressions in the date range you last picked on the Dashboard or in the Ads Manager. Removed campaigns are not in it. If a campaign is missing or the list is empty, pick a longer date range there, then open the field again. If the list is still empty, or you see error in loading google campaigns, check that your Google Ads connection still works. See What do I do when my Meta or Google Ads connection stops working?.

After you pick a campaign, the field shows its name followed by the names of its ad groups and ads, separated by commas. They are marked together with the campaign.

The X at the end of the field clears the whole list.

What it changes

When a customer clicked more than one ad or link before buying, TrueROAS weighs each click and gives the sale to the click that weighs most. A click from a marked campaign weighs 80% less, so another click from the same customer, such as a Meta ad they clicked first, is more likely to get the sale.

  • This works with every attribution model. See How do I change the attribution model and attribution window?.
  • If the marked campaign is the only click before the sale, it still gets the sale.
  • Your total sales stay the same. Sales only move from one click to another, so your marked campaigns usually show fewer sales and a lower ROAS, and your other campaigns and channels show more.
  • The Dashboard and the Ads Manager apply the list to every date range, so sales from before you marked a campaign can move too.

What it does not change

  • Nothing changes in your Google Ads account. The campaign keeps running.
  • The campaign stays in the Ads Manager, and its ad spend still counts in full.
  • A campaign you start later is not marked by itself. Add it to the list once it has run.
